what I did not buy at the thrift store

On a recent trip to my local Value Village I observed more things one should never buy at the thrift store then treasures I wanted to drag home. Rare for me, remember that I have those tendencies to hoard all the things?!
Up first is this leotard with loads of sparkle and velvet to spare. No thank you, not even my fond memories of countless gymnastics classes would get this in my cart.

Addendum: If you were going to purchase that leotard you are then bound by law to wear it with these silver booties. A steal at $14.99.
I didn't need a 70's sweater dress either, so I passed on this as well. Although, paired with those silver boots, you could totally be Twiggy for Halloween. You're welcome.
Now we have arrived at the more serious portion of this post. I'd like to forewarn anyone with a sensitive stomach or prone to fainting...;)

This guy will climb down from your shelf at night and eat your face. Seriously, freaks me out.

Unless of course you buy these dolls as well. Then the dolls will crowd out the mug because they're quicker and it will be a face buffet all night. No kidding!  I think I saw an episode of Scooby Doo about this once.
Ahh! Look away! They will steal your soul.

Yikes. Haven't been back in awhile, too busy with nightmares and therapy.

a day in the life

Sometime Washington just punches you in the face with its natural beauty.
(I was not driving ;)

Thrifting never gets old. Ha! get it?
Little boys colored skinny jeans.
Lots of "would you rather..." questions from the kids lately.
Soccer practice after a lacrosse game.
Science!
Gear. And the worst smell to date.
Stinkeye.

legend of the corduroy jacket

It lives on in Collin's Kindergarten portrait. All my boys have worn this Ralph Lauren blazer to Kindergarten picture day. Andrea has even called dibs on it for her boy. So it is kind of a big deal. Pretty great for a $5 thrift store score a decade ago!

Not sure if anybody realizes just how much of a cynic I am. I learned to curb it early on. (not everyone wants to visit the dark farm with me, go figure) But this boy. I tell you what, this boy is changing all that. He melts me. All those crusty bits where wounds haven't quite healed right, his delight in life chases them off. He is exhausting, to be sure, so I have to rest more. And I am learning that I am not so much a cynic as I am tired. Tiny wizard, that is what Collin is. A tiny wizard, pressing in on my heart in all the best ways. Plus that coat always puts a smile on my face.

instagram ruined my blog

It is just too darn easy to document the everyday with Instagram whilst neglecting my blog, my real camera, and feeding my children. Just kidding, you see all that food up there? I mean, I have to make them something to eat... so that I can Instagram it ;)

This collage features the best thrifting score to date: 2 gold unicorns. Yahtzee!
